Coating suppliers frequently face failures: paint films pass factory adhesion tests yet peel off at customers’ sites. The cross-cut, scribed-circle and pull-off tests assess coating adhesion from distinct perspectives and are not interchangeable. The cross-cut test enables fast qualitative batch screening for thin coatings. The scribed-circle test simulates local combined stress to comply with traditional specifications. The pull-off test delivers quantitative tensile data, mandatory for thick coatings, heavy-duty anti-corrosion works and bidding projects. A single passed test cannot detect hidden defects under thermal cycling or weathering. Our 3-tier QC system uses cross-cut for mass production, scribed-circle for re-inspection, and pull-off tests for engineering orders. Multi-testing eliminates “false pass” risks, guaranteeing long-term performance of water-based and powder coatings against peeling in industrial and heavy anti-corrosion applications.
